Northern Pike Limits On Sand Lake
Sunday, May 17, 2009

Just wanted to remind everyone that the pike limits on Sand Lake are not the normal state standards. ALL 22" to 36" pike must immediately be returned to the lake however, your possession limit is 9 instead of the statewide 3. We do ask that you keep your nine pike as this must be a unified effort to improve the walleye, perch and crappie survival rates. Sand Lake is loaded with 17" to 22" pike and a 19" pike typically won't eat a 19" pike but it sure will eat smaller walleye, perch and crappie. So, by imposing a slot we are trying to not only improve the quality of pike caught but also create size variances so larger pike may eat smaller pike. By raising the possession limit from 3 to 9 we are allowing those who want to keep pike the ability to do so while helping other species in the lake. If you typically do not keep pike because you are unfamiliar with getting the "Y" bones out please view the video on our website on the fishing page. Also, there are many ways to enjoy pike. Dani and I will trade you a walleye for a pike out of Sand Lake anyday. We really enjoy the pike meat from this lake. Have you tried to boil the meat in Sprite or 7up? How about pike patties on the grill? Send us an email or give us a call and we will be happy to discuss different ways of cooking pike. The moral of this story is we have tried to set an experimental regulation in conjunction with the DNR to not only help improve the fishing as a whole on Sand Lake but to give the angler a rare and special opportunity to enjoy pike from Sand. However, for this to work we need the assistance of everyone! Keep Your 9 Pike! Please! Labels: Northern Pike Limits on Sand Lake
